FAQ's
A. Our base layers (shirts, pants and shorts) are all sewn here in the USA. Our flannels, sweatshirts and jackets are sewn in Pakistan. Our armor is manufactured by SAS-TEC out of Germany.
A. Well, the reality is that there really isn't much like Bohn out there. Bohn offers the highest rated protection in the lightest weight, most breathable fabric base later available. Our customers consistently say "they wish they knew about our product years ago" and "This is the most comfortable protection I have ever worn". We protect you from shoulders to shins on every ride.
What people absolutely love about Bohn is that you can continue to wear their favorite jeans, pants, shirts, jackets etc. but with a layer of protection underneath.
A. Yes! We fit all shapes and sizes! Check individual product pages for available sizes.
A. No, normally your regular jeans and pants fit easily over our pants. For women who tend to wear tighter jeans, normally if there is a fair amount of stretch you will be fine.
A. That’s a very good combination! Many people do just that – and it’s much better than having armor inside Kevlar® jeans that is loose and can move around in a crash. Just one point though, the Kevlar® material does not easily pass air and the only time we hear of the Pants being hot is generally when they have Kevlar® pants on top.
A. We are in North Carolina now, but we started our business in Northern California and we know what it’s like to ride when it’s over 100°F for months! We offer two types of riding gear to suit you in the heat:
- Cool-Air Mesh offers the most ventilated and completely cool option. You will hardly notice it at all with it’s 100% breathable mesh and soft stretchy fabric.
- All-Season offers an all-season option. Still great for warm climates but you can also use them throughout the year. Made from Lycra®, they are also stretchy and comfortable.
A. Yes. We offer CE-Level 2 on Back, Shoulders, Arms, Hips and Knees/Shins. We also offer protectors for the tailbone and thigh made of ultra-light Level 1 “style” pads.
A. No, all the Bohn armor is multi-use, so as long as there is no physical damage you are good to reuse it. If you have any concerns feel free to call us. If you find you do need to replace your armor, you can order it here.
A. Our pants come with removable knee + shin, hip, thigh and tailbone armor, and our shirts come with removable shoulder, elbow + forearm and back armor. While we recommend wearing all the armor, you are free to find a setup that suits your riding needs.
A. Yes, it’s easy to replace what you need. We offer all of our armor for sale separately.
A. Yes. We offer fabric shells (fabric only–no armor) for all of our Bodyguard System products. Many people get a spare set to take on vacation. Our shells also allow you to have multiple options depending on your riding conditions–you just swap out the armor to a different style/riding season.
A. We offer small sizes 3XS and 2XS however at this time we do not have dedicated children’s sizes.
A. Yes, absolutely! Our base layers are designed to fit both men and women. Just use the sizing guide to determine your proper fit. If you have any questions regarding sizing, give us a call.
A. Great question. If you are in-between sizes or you are having trouble fitting into our size chart, give us a call at 704-663-0351 or email us at Bohn@BohnArmor.com. We are more than happy to help. Indicate your waist, inseam, height and weight if you would like.
Another option: Often times customers will order one size fully armored and then a fabric shell in another size and return the fabric shell of the one that does not fit. This saves time and money in the long run should you order the wrong size.
A. If you are ordering for a friend, give us a call – 704-663-0351. We can help size that person or you can always opt for a gift certificate.
A. If you are thinking of protection when crashing there are going to be two factors to consider – Abrasion Protection and Impact Protection. Abrasion Protection, like Kevlar® Jeans or leathers for instance, is good at protecting you from gravel rash if you are sliding down the road and is what riders often think of first when protecting themselves.
But the Bohn approach is to treat Impact Protection as the priority, as that is what causes major injuries to the ‘corners’ of your body – knees, hips, elbows, etc.
These are the types of injuries that put you in the hospital, cost lots of money, and keep you off work. So we aim to primarily protect you for impact.
However, because our shirts, pants and shorts keep the armor nice and snug on the body we have also found after 28 years and 100s of testimonials and reviews that you also get abrasion protection too.
A. We repeatedly hear from our customers that peace of mind is just as important as the physical protection you wear. So if you are feeling vulnerable, that is a good reason in itself to get protected. And, yes, passengers are just as vulnerable in a crash as the rider up front!
A. While our product is intended for and certified for motorcycling, we sell quite a lot for winter sports and in fact all active sports and pursuits. We have ladies’ soccer teams, acrobats, roller-derby queens, rodeo cowboys, martial artists, skateboarders, one-wheelers, unicycles, downhill mountain biking, skydivers, equestrians, military, police and more among our tens of thousands of satisfied customers. Please note, however, our products are certified and warrantied for motorcycling. While we have many customers who find other uses for them we cannot guarantee their effectiveness or longevity for these types of sports.
A. YES! Every word is from a real customer report that has been sent to us. Do you have an interesting testimonial of your own? We would love to hear from you. We’d also love a picture of you in your gear. Please send to Bohn@BohnArmor.com.
A. Armor should be stored at room temperature. If armor has been stored in cold conditions, be sure to warm it up before wearing it to prevent cracking. The armor pieces need to be washed periodically. Remove them from your garment and hand wash with mild soap/detergent, or wipe down with a damp cloth.
A. Yes! Our customers range from street riders, dirt, adventure, etc. Bohn gear is comfortable and versatile for a variety of riding preferences.
A. Absolutely! We carry a wide range of different sizes/styles of armor. We've included the measurements of all the armor on the site. You can measure the pockets of your garment, then select the proper armor pieces accordingly.
A. Just like your helmet, our armor does expire. We recommend replacing the armor approximately every 7 years. It may last longer, but if you notice the texture starting to change (brittle or starting to crumble), it's time to replace it.
