How one motorcyclist's morning commute turned into a terrifying collision with a semi-truck—and why he's grateful he was wearing his Bohn armored flannel.

For Casey Prevette, it started like any other workday. He was riding his motorcycle to work through an industrial area where large trucks and semis are a regular part of traffic.

He was traveling at the speed limit, staying in his lane, and heading toward work.

Then, in an instant, everything changed.

A Turn That Changed Everything

As Casey approached the intersection a driver of a semi-truck the began making a left turn across Casey's lane.

The truck driver was supposed to yield to oncoming traffic. But he didn't see Casey.

And he turned directly into his path.

Casey was thrown over his motorcycle's handlebars and landed on the hood of the semi-truck, wedged between the truck's bull bars.

The impact left him trapped.

Emergency responders arrived and worked to free Casey from the truck. As you can see from the photograph, getting him out was no easy task.

What should have been an ordinary commute had become a serious accident that could have ended very differently.

The Armor He Was Wearing Made a Difference

Fortunately, Casey had made one very important decision before leaving home that morning.

He put on his Bohn armored motorcycle flannel, equipped with CE Level 2 armor protecting his shoulders, elbows, and back.

Despite being thrown from his motorcycle and landing on the front of a semi-truck, Casey reported no injuries to his upper body.

According to Casey, the paramedics told him how fortunate he was to have been wearing upper-body armor. They believed he could have suffered serious injuries, particularly to his back, without that protection.

After being freed from the truck, Casey was transported by ambulance to the hospital for evaluation.

What Wasn't Protected

While Casey's upper body came through the accident remarkably well, his lower body wasn't so fortunate.

He experienced soreness from his pelvis down to his knees, along with swelling in his knees.

Unlike his upper body, Casey wasn't wearing armored motorcycle pants.

Casey certainly didn't.

He was simply going to work, following the speed limit, and riding in his own lane.
