CUSTOMER REVIEW

Q: What type of protection do these pants offer me?
A:
Our Cool-Air Mesh Motorcycle Riding Pants offer 9-points of protection for hips, knees, shins, tailbone, and thighs (CE-Level 2 on hips, knees, and shins.) Low-profile armor fits comfortably and hugs the vulnerable corners of your body. The armor stays in place and won’t move around.

Q: Will the fabric tear or rip when I put it on? It looks delicate.
A:
No, this fabric should not tear or rip when putting it on. It is actually quite strong but lightweight. With just a little mindfulness, these pants can last for decades and provide long-lasting protection. Just ask the 1000s who already own a pair. We always recommend putting on the pants with care and being careful not to tug too quickly to avoid undue stress on the seams. We also recommend that you wash this garment often and do not leave salt residue from salty air or sweat on it for long periods of time. Like any fabric, the salts can eat away at the stretchiness of the material.

Q: Are the pants abrasion-resistant?
A:
The main design function of our Motorcycle Pants is impact protection. While the armor pieces do offer you some abrasion resistance in a fall, the pants themselves are not reinforced with Kevlar® or Cordura®. Our goal with our pants is to keep the armor right where you need it, if you need it. The armor stays snug to your body and won’t flop around like other riding pants do.

Most of our customers wear our pants with a pair of jeans or riding pants and find that those two alone provide plenty of protection in a crash. However, adding a pair of Kevlar® pants over these motorcycle pants would be the perfect combination.

Q: Won’t these pants be HOT?
A:
By no means. These motorcycle pants are actually quite cool. They are made of a very soft, stretchy mesh material that lets air pass right through to help keep you cool and comfortable.  We recommend you read the reviews to determine if these will work for you.

Q: Will they look bulky under my jeans?
A:
No, not at all. Oftentimes, no one will ever know you are wearing them.

Q: Do I need to purchase a larger-sized pair of riding pants so these fit under them?
A:
In our experience (and 1000s of others) you do not need to purchase a new pair of larger pants to fit over our motorcycle pants. This is because the fit is streamlined and the armor conforms to the body to prevent additional bulk.

Q: Do I have to wear underwear with these?
A:
That is a personal choice we leave up to our customers, but most riders wear undergarments with their Cool-Air pants for cleanliness, hygiene and modesty reasons. Remember these pants are somewhat “see-through”.

Q: Are they available with a fly?
A:
Yes, please let us know you would like a fly version by leaving a note at check out.

Q: What is the difference between your All-Season fabric and the Cool-Air™
A:
The All-Season fabric is made from a stretchy, mid-weight Lycra® fabric with a ventilated crotch panel.  The Cool-Air™ fabric is made entirely from a stretchy, lightweight elastic mesh material. Both types of pants have tailbone, hip, knee/shin and thigh armor. Adventure Pants have consistently been popular among our all-season riders. The Cool-Air fabric is popular for people who ride in very hot and humid climates.

Q: I am in between sizes, how do I know which one to choose?
A:
Great question. If you are in-between sizes or having trouble fitting into our size chart, call 704-663-0351 or email us at orders@bohnarmor.com. We are more than happy to help. Indicate your waist, inseam, height and weight if you would like.

Another option: Oftentimes, customers will order one size fully armored and then a fabric shell in another size and return the fabric shell of the one that does not fit. This saves time and money in the long run should you order the wrong size.

We do ask that you contact us via telephone or email to request an RMA number and let us know which size you are sending back. This helps to expedite your return within our facility.

Q: I want to order for a friend but I am unsure of their size.
A:
If you are ordering for a friend, give us a call – 704-663-0351. We can help size that person or you can always opt for a gift certificate.

Lycra and Mesh Shirts, Pants and Shorts Instructions:

Follow the steps below to ensure long-lasting wear and care:

  1. Pull the fabric back on the armor pockets to remove the armor. (Note: failure to remove armor may cause damage to the fabric shell.)
  2. Wash fabric shells on a low-temperature setting and gentle cycle or hand wash. Do not dry clean!
White Summer Mesh shirts must be washed with white clothes only or by hand. Discoloration due to washing with colored garments, leaving sunscreen on the garment too long or stains are not warrantied.
  3. We recommend using an activewear detergent when laundering your garments to maintain the integrity of the stretch in the fabric.
  4. Do not wash Bohn fabric shells with items that have Velcro®, hooks or accessories that could catch and snag the fabric or with garments that have not been washed before.
  5. Dry shells at a low temperature or best to just hang them dry.
  6. We recommend removing the armor from your Bohn gear from time to time to clean it as detergent residue, salt (including body salt) and moisture can stick to it and could negatively affect the armor.
  7. Armor pieces should NOT be placed in the washing machine or dryer, but may be wiped clean with a damp cloth if they become soiled.
  8. When dry, reinsert the armor pieces into their respective pockets and pull the pocket flaps into place. This ensures the armor will stay in the proper position.

Please NOTE:

  • Our garments are made with Lycra® and must be washed regularly. Salt air and sweat left on the garment can break down the Lycra® in the garment so it is imperative that they be washed regularly and not stored for long periods of time with salt or sweat on them.
  • Also, pilling can occur if the garment is consistently rubbing against something that agitates the garment (i.e., tag, plastic, loose seam, etc.), so please be certain you do not have an overgarment that could agitate the fabric. If you start seeing pilling, turn your jeans, pants, or jacket inside out and feel for the item that is rubbing on your garment.

**Lack of care, pilling of garments, rips, tears, or lingering smells are not covered under our warranty.

With proper care, our garments can last years. We wish you many years of riding protection!

Cleaning:
We recommend removing the armor from your Bohn gear from time to time to clean it as detergent residue, salt (including body salt) and moisture can stick to it and negatively affect the armor.

Armor pieces should NOT be placed in the washing machine or dryer, but may be wiped clean with a damp cloth if they become soiled.

Temperature:
We recommend storing your protectors in temperatures above 60 degrees. Extreme temperatures will not affect the effectiveness of the protector, but extreme cold in addition to stress on the protector (ie. bending of the armor when cold) can cause the pieces to crack.

A such, do not stress the protectors in extremely cold weather conditions. (For example, leaving pieces in a cold garage and then putting them on can cause armor with articulation to crack at the articulation points.)

Just use good judgment when wearing the protectors and try your best to keep them against your warm body. DO NOT use frozen protectors–bring them inside to warm up and then use.

Warranty:
Limb armor, like your helmet, has an expiration date typically 5-10 years from manufacture.

If you have Bohn armor that is 5-10 years old and is "crumbling", you need to replace it. If only one piece is crumbling, the other pieces are sure to follow. This means your armor has expired and all pieces should be replaced as they were likely manufactured at the same time.

Cracking of Level 2 armor pieces is not warrantied as this means one of two things:

  • The armor placement is incorrect on your body (see proper placement graphic below).
    OR
  • It has been subjected to cold extreme temperatures and then bent or used while frozen or cold.

If your protector is affected and you are confident that you have taken care of your protector, please give us a call.

Customer Reviews

Overall rating: 4.8 / 5 from 604 reviews.

Went right out and tested it on day one lol. I'm 66 years old and out and about exploring IDBDR trails. At this age I realized that falling down isn't an option which is why I decided to buy some armor. I landed on my hip and I'm sure my knee must have impacted too. The CE2 armor did its duty, I was unharmed although a bit sore in the following days. Love how this armored garment easily wears under my blue jeans and breaths extremely well. 100% glad that I armored up and 100% glad that this was my choice of armored wear. It's slim, light, and unrestrictive, I don't even notice/realize that I'm wearing it. The Butt armor actually makes my seat more comfortable so that actually will save me $ from now "not" needing to buy a new seat for my 2000 Suzuki DR 650 SE for long on road ADV trips. Folks: Yes buy this if the above mentions suits your needs. I didn't want "all out" bulky restrictive sweaty armor but I wanted to be CE2 armored to offer "Peace of mind" protection. Box checked (and tested lol). Robert

"Original” Cool-Air™ Mesh | Armored Motorcycle Riding Pants | 5x12 Knee

For reference I am 6f3 300lbs ( with a well earned gut🤣) and purchased the pants in a 3XL. They fit perfectly and performed flawlessly as advertised. In 111 degree heat I was completely cool and comfortable wearing this AND the matching shirt. It's as if it takes your perspiration and uses it as freon to keep you cool if that makes any sense. I highly recommend you get it.AND the shirt.

"Original” Cool-Air™ Mesh | Armored Motorcycle Riding Pants | 5x12 Knee

They are too long. Knees do not stay were they should be. Top rolls over my jeans. Seemed ok riding but not off bike. Washed and hard to get armor back in. Hip armor wants to roll up.

"Original” Cool-Air™ Mesh | Armored Motorcycle Riding Pants | 5x12 Knee

Store owner replied: Steven, I am sorry you are experiencing some issues. At first blush, we are almost 100% confident that you are in the wrong size. All of the issues (except the rolling of the hip) point to them being too big. Please give us a call; we are happy to help. Also, for anyone who is struggling to get the armor back in, we have a video at the bottom of our webpage that shows you how. It should be very easy to get back in and not take more than 2 minutes. Also, if anyone reading this review is struggling to figure out their size, please call. We don't bite. Look forward to talking with you, Steven. Kristen Bohn Body Armor

I ordered this gear for both my husband and I. Like most women I am extremely curvy in the hips and was not sure if I could get a good fit. I sent my measurements they told me which one to order and sure enough, it fit! I felt so secure in having this gear under my riding jeans. We were unfortunately involved in an accident, the only MAJOR injury was I have a broken ankle, but that's it! I contribute that to the Grace of God, and this gear! :)

"Original” Cool-Air™ Mesh | Armored Motorcycle Riding Pants | 5x12 Knee

The hip and thigh armor slips out of the poorly designed garment. They need a thin velcro closer at all the pockets where the armor goes in, even had my tailbone armor fall out.

"Original” All-Season Lycra | Armored Motorcycle Riding Pants | 5x12

Store owner replied: Doug, Thank you for your review. Yes, the tradeoff for the lightweight armor is that it can sometimes get away from the pocket or twist slightly. We've designed a few different types of pockets (since we started using the new armor 5 years ago), to see how to remedy this situation and for one reason or another they did not work. This type of pocket is best. We understand your frustration and again, it is the tradeoff for the flexible armor and adding thigh protection to pants––as you know, Bohn is the only company do add thigh protection to pants. However, we don't bite. We are a family run company and we welcome feedback and questions. We are always up for a call or email. If you would like, we could send you a little fabric velcro to solve this issue for you. Please let us know. Kristen Bohn Body Armor

There was a mix up on the website and it let order pants that were out of stock. Customer rep called me and made arrangements to get a different pair that were basically the same and expedited the shipping so I would still have them for my trip. I was very appreciative of that. The pants are great, the armor is very nice and you couldn’t even tell the pants we’re under my carpenter jeans.

"Original” Cool-Air™ Mesh | Armored Motorcycle Riding Pants | 5x12 Knee

Well made gear. Cool Mesh Armored Pants. Fits well (2XL Tall for a 6'5" 220 lb male). Knee armor are exactly where they are supposed to be for my height (great armor placement on the tall size). Great customer service. I had to exchange the 1XL Tall for a 2XL Tall and the exchange was made easy by Bohn. However, there is room for improvement. I agree with some previous reviewers that some of the armor pockets in the mesh allow for the hip and thigh armor to move/slip out, especially when putting the pants on or taking them off. The hip and thigh armor pocket openings need to all be horizontal. That will keep the armor in place better. The hip and thigh armor pockets are vertical. I added adhesive-backed velcro onto the hip and thigh pocket openings to keep the armor from slipping out. It is working. I've only worn these in cold temps. Probably comfortable to wear up into the mid-80's temps-wise. Will see once it warms up here in Michigan if I can wear them in +80 degree temps.

"Original” Cool-Air™ Mesh | Armored Motorcycle Riding Pants | 5x12 Knee

Not as good as the pair I bought six years ago. Padding is not as thick and feels more flimsy.

"Original” All-Season Lycra | Armored Motorcycle Riding Pants | 5x12

Store owner replied: Matthew, Thank you for your review. We are sorry that your new armor did not meet your expectations. Please note, however, that the new armor is a significant upgrade over the previous armor. Please view this video to explain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBh9tnQ3o_Q We went from an old-style Level 1 armor to the highest-rated Level 2 armor available. It is lighter, thinner, and more comfortable, but infinitely better protection. Please let us know if you have any questions. Sincerely, Kristen Bohn Body Armor

The fit is great a little warm on a 80 degree day especially if walking around. Also I would love to see maybe some velcro at each opening to keep the armor from coming out and moving down my leg. Also the fly stays open in my case. Even with all that I love them will be ordering the summer pants and jacket soon.

"Original” All-Season Lycra | Armored Motorcycle Riding Pants | 5x12

This is a comfortable, nicely fitting set of “yoga pants” with armor pockets. The armor is light and comfortable. It is relatively cool. I have not had (and hope to continue to not have) crash experience with it. My only complaint is the mesh pockets that hold the armor in place could be more secure.

"Original” All-Season Lycra | Armored Motorcycle Riding Pants | 5x12

The Bohn Original Cool-Air™ Mesh Armored Riding Pants are one of the most comfortable and practical protective layers I’ve used for motorcycle riding. The breathable mesh keeps them surprisingly cool even in warmer weather, and the fit is flexible enough that you forget you’re wearing armor after a few minutes. They work exceptionally well under Kevlar-lined riding jeans or leather pants, eliminating the need for bulky built-in armor in the outer layer. The protection stays exactly where it should, while your riding pants remain comfortable and streamlined. This system is far more comfortable than relying on stiff armor built into jeans. A smart and versatile solution for serious riders.

"Original” Cool-Air™ Mesh | Armored Motorcycle Riding Pants | 5x12 Knee

The Bohn body armor protective pants are outstanding. They are extremely comfortable, breathable, and incredibly well-designed. The fit is secure without restricting movement, and the impact protection provides real confidence on every ride. The moisture-wicking fabric makes them easy to wear for long stretches, whether commuting or touring. Honestly, I should have purchased these years ago. The quality and protection far exceed expectations, and they’ve quickly become an essential part of my riding gear. Highly recommended for anyone serious about safety and comfort.

"Original” Cool-Air™ Mesh | Armored Motorcycle Riding Pants | 5x12 Knee

Received the armored pants today. Good quality material and they are a bit snug - tight around the lower legs - but fit well. The main thing is that the armor stays in place and doesn’t slide around. I wonder if the material stretches a little after you wear them for a while?

Customer photo review of "Original” All-Season Lycra | Armored Motorcycle Riding Pants | 5x12

Searched the Internet for a close to lower body motorcycle protection and found these. Liked that they offer a bit more than other brands with thigh and tail bone protection. Also liked that they have zippers at the ankle/calf area for getting them on/off without strain the pant fabric. Would have liked to see a thicker tail bone pad in the event of a seated fall. Also, would like to see the pant material offer some abrasion protection. Otherwise, a very good pant.

Store owner replied: Mike, Thank you for your review. Glad you like the pants. Not sure if you knew this or not, but you are welcome to upgrade to a 9mm tailbone vs 6mm. Feel free to call us and we can get that done for you. Kristen
